Two persons have died and nearly 65,000 have been affected by floods in Assam. The floods, which started two days ago, have hit nine districts in the state. Crops over 330 hectares have been affected. The Brahmaputra and Jia Bharali rivers are flowing above danger mark at some places, affecting people in 113 villages across Barpeta, Sonitpur, Dhemaji, Bongaigaon, Lakhimpur, Tinsukia, Darrang, Nalbari and Goalpara districts.
The authorities have opened two relief camps in Tinsukia district, the report said. One person was killed in Lakhimpur district on Monday, the state Disaster Management Authority said in its daily flood report, taking the toll to two. Lakhimpur district bore the brunt with over 25,000 persons being affected. Over 19,000 people were hit in Sonitpur. A road bridge is damaged in Lakhimpur district, while three roads have been damaged in Sonitpur.
