Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi were affected by a violent cyclone that killed at least 150
dead and hundreds missing. In the poorest rural areas in tens of thousands were isolated because the roads out of order and telephone outages. They are on the whole more than half a million people affected by Cyclone Idai in the three countries of Southern Africa, according to UN data and official government sources. The most affected is the Mozambican port city of Beira, where the airport was closed, no electricity and many houses were destroyed.
