Nottinghamshire braced for Hurricane Gonzalo

Driving winds and heavy rain are set to batter Nottinghamshire as the remnants of Hurricane Gonzalo strike later today. The Met Office has issued a Yellow Warning for the county, with fallen trees and flooding potentially causing rush-hour chaos on Tuesday morning. A Met Office spokesman said: “The remains of Hurricane Gonzalo will run eastwards across the Atlantic, reaching the UK on Monday night,
bringing a period of strong winds and heavy rain to the UK. SEND US YOUR IMAGES OF THE STORM AND WE’LL USE THEM HERE AND IN THE PAPER. To email us CLICK HERE “The strongest winds are expected on Tuesday. Gusts exceeding 55mph are likely in land. “The public should be aware of the potential for disruption to travel, especially as the strongest winds will coincide with rush-hour in places, and perhaps some damage to trees. “Difficult driving conditions will result, exacerbated by surface water and spray. “The public is advised to take extra care.” The yellow ‘be aware’ warning has been issued across Nottinghamshire from shortly after midnight on Tuesday until around 6pm. Nationally, gusts are expected to hit 60 to 70 mph in some exposed coastal areas in the west, and possibly to around 80 mph around coasts in northern Scotland. Bermudans are currently clearing up after a direct hit from Hurricane Gonzalo downed power lines, damaged buildings and caused flooding on the tiny Atlantic territory.
