Huge sinkhole in Missouri swallows part of Top of the Rock golf course

A large sinkhole opened up Friday morning and created a new playing hazard on the Top of the Rock golf course. At about 6:30 a.m., grounds crews noticed the ground gave way between the practice driving range and the entrance pond to the course, according to Tammy Sapp, director of communications at Bass Pro Shops. Bass Pro Shops owner Johnny Morris developed Top of the Rock and has operated it since the course opened a little more than a year ago.

The size of the sinkhole is not clear, but the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and geological engineers are on the scene to inspect and measure it. Bass Pro Shops is waiting to see what the experts find before deciding how to best repair the course. Golfers are still able to play. No tee times have been postponed so far. KY3
